The organization was originally founded as Hua Tuo Society of Pathology (HTSP, 华佗病理学会) in March, 2003, in Washington, D.C., during annual meeting of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. The name was changed to Chinese American Pathologists Association (CAPA) in February, 2006, in Atlanda.
